In case you missed our last Buzz post, we now offer the holy-grail of hard drive upgrades - 1 terrabyte!
It's my opinion that only bad puns and visual hyperbole can convey the awesomeness of having this amount of storage inside of your laptop, so here ya go...
Of course, if you have a MacBook or MacBook Pro unibody system or a 17" Aluminum MacBook Pro, you won't notice any difference in the size of your laptop when you get it back from our Apple Certified Techs. :)
OK, to say we're excited about this is the understatement of the year. After extensive testing, we are please to release our new 1 Terabyte (that's 1000 Gigabytes in case you are keeping score at home) drive upgrade for MacBook and MacBook Pro unibody systems.
Simply put, this drive rocks. With the latest drive technology and same-day or overnight installation that includes data transfer - we're ready to max out your Mac whenever you are. Read the complete press release here.
One thing I know is true: your computer can never be fast enough and you can never have enough hard drive space. OK, that's two things, but both of them are true. That new shiny computer you may be using today is super fast, and although I'm not one to take away your bliss at just how fast it seems...in a short while, perhaps as soon as a few months, you'll see...things will start to slow down a bit at first, then it will get a little slower and finally it will end with you yelling at the screen: "C' mon, I can't believe you're taking so long!" Well, maybe I'm the only one who yells at his computer, but you get the idea. Of course, your shiny new machine is still as fast as the day you got it, but your expectations have been, shall we say, "adjusted" by the experience of working on your new system. What seems fast today, will simply be ordinary tomorrow, eventually evolving into what seems like eons to perform a task that you swear only took a few seconds when you first got your machine. It's a curse, I know.
And then there's your hard drive. You know, that nice, safe place where you store all your stuff - those applications that you use to surf the web, check your email, write your novel, etc. That metropolis of streets that wind through your digital content like an L.A. freeway - Next exit, Photo Town! Just how much space do you need? As much as you can get your hands on, in my opinion. Drive prices have followed the housing market and dropped like a rock over the last couple of years. Never before has so little cash bought so much space. And what about speed? Do you really need a fast hard drive? Well, since Photo Town is a long way away from Wordville and even farther from Mailhaven - you need some speed to get from one application to another, from one file to the next. So, we've had 500 Gigabyte drives available for some time now for MacBook and MacBook Pro systems, which has been an enormously popular upgrade for our clients. Even classic PowerBook and iBook owners can now pop a 320 Gigabyte drive into their systems for around $200 - life is good. But what about speed? Until now, if you wanted a fast, 7200 RPM hard drive in your MacBook or MacBook Pro, you were stuck with a "little" 320 Gigabyte drive - and although that seems like a lot of space, once you start adding stuff, it fills up quick - not to mention that you need to keep at least 10% of your hard drive empty at all times! Why the heck would you do that, you ask? Well, certainly the computer makers, hard drive companies and software companies are in cahoots, since you need that extra space for everything to work well together - when you are ready to hit the gas on your way to Wordville, or even worse, Photoshopolis, you have to have that open, free space for the software to work correctly.
Today is a day we have been waiting for. Today we get the storage we need for all of our stuff AND we get the speed we dream about. I'm talking about Seagate's new 500 Gigabyte, 7200 RPM drive that (finally) has begun shipping for MacBook and MacBook Pro systems. This drive rocks! The Seagate drive is substantially faster than the 320 Gigabyte 7200 RPM drive and blows by benchmarks for just about any other drive out there. Take a look at the speed tests below, courtesy of our friends at BareFeats.com.
We are performing this upgrade starting...today! And at just $299 for complete installation, data transfer and cloning of your drive within 24-hours, we are very excited about this new service. Here's the details for you:
Overnight 500 Gigabyte 7200RPM MacBook & MacBook Pro Hard Drive Upgrade Service with Data Transfer and Free Shipping only $299!
We've had a Twitter account for a long time now, but didn't use it that often. Lately, we have seen our followers growing and more and more requests from customers for TechRestore Twitter updates - we are happy to oblige and have been sending out a steady stream of tweets for the last week or so. We are using TweetDeck, the software I recommended to you a couple of weeks ago - a great app that really helps to manage your Twitter content. Brian Northway has designed a nice Twitter page for us and I see more and more customers following us each day. We are using Twitter for repair updates, news, comments and yes, even some exclusive Twitter discounts for our followers.
If you are using Twitter, click over to our page to follow us and we will follow you (no stalking, promise). We look forward to integrating Twitter updates more and more into our daily workflow. Follow us here: twitter.com/techrestore
MacBook Pro Hot Rod Shirt
We continue to see a great response to our new T-shirt clothing line, with exploded product T's shipping out to all points of the globe. This week, grab our famous Hot Rod MacBook Pro shirt for just $17.99, $2.00 off the regular price. This is one of my favorite shirts, using a design from our MacWorld Expo advertising that was incredibly popular at the show a couple of years ago.
Hi there, I'm Brian, the art-guy/mad scientist of TechRestore's Future Shock blog and video Podcast. In the process of fine-tuning our content distribution, we decided that I should write in the Specials News (since everything there ends up in the blog eventally). Each week I'll be bringing you something that reminds me of the cool stuff that I used to look forward to getting on my user-group floppies - remember those? Now, thanks to the internet, the whole world is one big user-group!
This week I have another screen-saver for you Mac lovers. My latest creation, TechRestore Doodles, is not only vibrant, vivid and dynamic - it's 3D! To enjoy the stunning stereo-scopic 3D effect, you'll need a pair of ChromaDepth glasses (anaglyphic red/blue 3D glasses won't work), but it's captivating in 2D as well. Since this this effect could only be recorded through screen capture, it's a little slow in the video, but you'll get the idea:
NOTE: Even if you're not a big fan of screensavers, you can view this colorful creation in a QuickTime player or a Safari window!
Back to the topic of ChromaDepth glasses...if you've never tried them, you're missing out! They've been used in everything from children's books to amusement park rides - even Absolute vodka ads. Available with paper or plastic frames, they use prism lenses to create the illusion of depth based on color. Cool colors recede to the back, greens float in the middle, and warm colors pop to the front, all in a such a clear and convincing way that you will find yourself reaching out to touch the images. The best part is that you can make your own 3D images with anything form crayons to a 3D modeling program. If you want to try ChromaDepth glasses, you can buy them for as little as $1 online, or request free samples from American Paper Optics.
Since this week's theme seems to be pimping your laptop, here's a desktop background of our classic laptop hotrod, which you may remember from our Macworld and Mac Addict ads, back in 2005 (also featured in our new T-shirt store). I've upgraded it to a unibody MacBook Pro running Leopard - oooh yeah!
See you back here next week,

Ah, good things come to those who wait. It's finally here, the long rumored and even longer waited for 1/2 Terabyte laptop hard drive that will fit in all MacBook and MacBook Pro models!
Our first batch of drives is here and we've just made this hot product live on our website. You'll get 500 Gigabytes of storage, installed overnight with data transfer from your old drive. It's a beautiful thing.
I'm sitting in the Seattle airport, catching my connecting flight to Chicago for some business meetings - but I couldn't wait to share this news with you. Since my current 250 Gigabyte drive has been acting up, I'll be having our guys swap in one of the 500 Gig drives for me when I return. Really, it's acting up, I promise.
If you've lusted after the 200 Gigabyte drive upgrade for your MacBook or MacBook Pro, but were turned off by the 4200RPM disc speed, we have good news today from our friends at Seagate. The new Momentus 7200.2 series of drives will run at 7200 RPM with sizes up to 160 Gigabyte. For now, you're maxed out at 100 Gigabytes of storage if you want a high speed drive, but we expect Seagate to begin shipping the higher capacity 7200 RPM drives within 2-3 months.
Of course, this means you'll be able to get the high speed overnight upgrade from TechRestore during the same time frame. It's a great combination: the fastest drive on the planet for your laptop, coupled with the fastest installation service available.
Get yourself signed up for the Special News to get updated information about these new drives as they become available.
