How To Get Here

Things I Know Are Ture

First off, I just want to let you local folks know that you are more than welcome to save yourself the cost of shipping a device in for repair, by dropping it off in person. We don't have a retail store, but our Repair Center is open from 8am - 5pm and local drop offs are welcome, here's how to get here:

Time to get up. Get dressed. Get your shoes on. Don't forget your sweatshirt. Be sure to brush your teeth. Yes, you do need to comb your hair, son. Do you have your homework? No, you can't take that to school. Have a great day.

Then:

15 minutes until bedtime. Get your pajamas on. Brush your teeth. Did you go to the bathroom? Leave your sister alone. Don't yell at your brother. Get to bed. No, I let you stay up late to finish that TV show - no time for stories now. Tomorrow, yes. Goodnight. Go to sleep. For the last time, go to sleep. I already did tuck you in. GOODNIGHT.

And so it goes - the story of my life. And just how many times do you think I've told my son to brush his teeth? Let's just say, for sake of argument that I have to tell him only 3 times per day (we'll be very generous) - that's 3 x 365 = 1095 x 6 years = 6,570 times that I've instructed the little bugger to brush his chompers. He's 7, but since I can't remember when he actually got teeth that needed to be brushed, we'll go with the lower number. And since I probably have to ask/tell him at least twice as many times as I'm giving him credit for, you can see that this is a rather large number. As well, we could have the same discussion about rather important things such as combing hair, shoes - you get the idea.

I'm pretty sure I've asked this question here one time or another, but can you tell me when they start actually remembering to do these things on their own? Certainly it can be no big surprise that brushing your teeth and hair are part of the morning routine, now that we've done it thousands upon thousands of time? Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be sharing any good news with me about my future prospects of not having to remind Ethan about these daily tasks.

And then there's Skylar. She's a dream when it comes to remembering these little things - but let me ask you one more very important question: Am I the only person in the country who thinks that the last thing in the world my lovely 10-year old daughter needs is a cell phone? Has everyone else gone insane and started thinking that these little kids are really deprived without a phone to text their friends with? I paid about $1000 for my first cell phone and even though I still remember how cool it made me feel to talk on it while walking down the street - I'm still not sold on getting one for Sky - and not just because everyone else watching me hold that big brick to my ear back then thought, "Who does this idiot think he is, the President?" I just can't think of any reason for a 10-year old to have a phone, other than the fact that half of the other 10-year olds in her class have them - and that's no reason at all. Yes, I get the safety thing - very cool to be able to locate your kid quickly and in some cases, very important for particular situations. We don't have one of those.

Wow, domestic life. Who'd have thought that these would be the pressing issues of the day. ;-)

See Through PSP Screen

Ever wonder what's behind your PSP screen? Here's a wallpaper image of exactly that! As you can see in the video, it looks even better on a PSP with clear faceplate.

Lance's PSP now shows even more of it's inner workings. You can download the same past-modern wallpaper image to use on your own psp right here:

PSP Wallpaper Installation Instructions

First, drag the image above onto your desktop or right click on it and save it to a desired location.

Next, follow the instructions below for USB or WiFi:

Using a 5-Pin USB Cable or a Memory Stick Pro Duo Card Reader

1. Connect your PSP or Memory Stick Pro Duo to your PC. (If using a USB Cable, plug it into your PSP, boot up your PSP, then go to Settings, and scroll down to USB Connection)
2. Go to My Computer -> Open the new Removable Disk that has appeared.
1. If you are using a mac the memory stick will appear on your desktop!
3. Create a folder named "PSP", inside that folder make a new folder named "PHOTO".
4. Now take the PSP wallpapers you have downloaded and transfer them into the "PHOTO" folder.

Using available WiFi Internet Access

1. Boot your PSP to its Main Menu.
2. Find the "Network" section and click on the "Internet Browser"
3. You should see a Blank Page. Click the "Triangle" button, then click on the "File" button, and finally click "Address Entry".
4. Type in the url/address to your PSP Wallpaper image and click "Enter". (If you have an available network setup and ready it should connect to it wirelessly automatically or it should let you choose which one you like to use. If not you will need to set one up in Network Settings)
5. You will notice that the image should load up. Now click "File" and click "Save Image".
6. Destination should be set to "/PSP/PHOTO/" and "File Name" can be whatever you wish. Once set click "Save". Once finished it will say "Save Complete".

Setting your Wallpaper on your PSP

1. In the PSP Main Menu go to "Photo" and click on the Memory Stick.
2. Now you will see you image. Select and open the image you would like to use.
3. Press the "Triangle" button and then go to "Set as Wallpaper" button and click it.
4. It will ask you if you would like to set as wallpaper or overwrite current wallpaper. Click "Yes".
5. Now go back to your PSP Main Menu and you should have the new custom wallpaper as your background.

The "PSP won't play PSN games" fix

Here's a tip passed along from our expert PSP tech, Lance:

After a PSP has a motherboard replaced and
you find that you can't play games downloaded from the PSN (Playstation Network), due to the board having a different serial #, here is what to do:

Activate/deactivate using a computer (for PSP system only)

1. Visit the PlayStation Network Account Management website at https://store.playstation.com/login.gvm and log into your PlayStation Network account. If this is the first time accessing the site, select your region from the list of countries.

2. Select "Activate/Deactivate PSP system."

3. Connect your PSP system to your computer via a USB cable and place the PSP system into USB Mode (Settings) > (USB Connection).

4. Select "Video Content," if you wish to download and watch movies from the PlayStation Network Video Download Service. Select "Game Content," to download games from the PlayStation Network.

5. Select "Activate System," to activate the console.

6. If the PSP system was previously activated with a different account, you may see a warning message indicating that activating the system with this account will deactivate it from the previous account. Click "Yes" to proceed.

7. Once complete, an "Activation completed" message will appear.

For certain types of PlayStation® Network content, you must activate your system (PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system or PSP® portable entertainment system) on the PlayStation Network in order to view or play the content. In these cases, if your system (PlayStation 3 or PSP system) is not activated, you will not be able to access the purchased PlayStation Network content. A maximum of five systems may be registered to a PlayStation Network account at a time. You must have the PlayStation 3 system or PSP system in order to activate or deactivate it from a PlayStation Network account.

Here it is, our first non-Apple product tear-down video, the PSP 3000! Not to be outdone by Chet, one of our game system techs, Lance, took this unit apart and put it back together, while I snapped video frames. This baby sports an extra bright screen, smudge-proof case and a built in microphone (for free PSP to PSP Skype talk and other apps). Check it out and see for yourself:
