Tuesday brought us new Mac Pros. Next Tuesday will be the keynote to kick off MacWorld Expo '08 featuring Steve Jobs himself. It's no surprise to most that Apple opted to announce the revision to the Mac Pro before MacWorld. In the recent years, Mac World has turned it's focus to more consumer oriented items like iPods, the iTunes store and occasionally the iMac. With the exception to earth shattering new line changes (ie shipping Intel Macs) the pro-consumer product lines are left to be announced at WWDC or with little fan fair.
So why did it surprise me? I have been waiting to see Apple annouce official Blu-ray Disc support. It's no secret that Apple has been on the Blu-ray board since '05. It's also no surprise that Apple has waited this long to add support with the media war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD. But today, over 2 years later, Apple has positioned it's self as the pace setter in the digital media realm. Selling the number one music and video player, controlling the number one digital music and video store, that out paces most brick and mortars, and an amazing line up of computers all with garage band and iTunes pre-installed. So why has Apple waited? Will we see a Blu-ray drive at MacWorld? With more then 50% of the major studios now backing blu-ray, only time can tell. I'll see you at MacWorld.
