Zoom, Zip, Dash

Hey there,

We moved all the TechRestore websites to a new server last night. It's either the lack of sleep on my end, or the sites seems much faster this morning. Hang on, I'll get a second opinion...... OK, it's not just me, the sites and our store are all performing better with this new server that we have affectionately named "Pompie". Can you tell me what movie Pompie (sounds like donkey, not the city) played a pivotal role? Send me a message and if you get it right we'll send a $10 coupon your way.

For now, don't miss out on today's special from the home office in Concord, California. Get an extra charger for your PowerBook G4 or iBook for under $25!

PowerBook G4 and iBook 65watt AC Adapter Power Charger
Normally $39.99, the first TWENTY orders get them for $24.99 each when you use coupon code "POWER"

Back at it...

Hey there,

I hope you had a good weekend. We spent our Friday evening sailing in Renee's brothers new sailboat out around the Benicia area. It was a nice way to spend the evening and I'd never really thought about "night sailing" before, but it was a blast. Other than that, the weekend was pretty uneventful. Lots of time with the kids, building forts, crashing hot wheels, digging in the sandbox and generally having a good time doing nothing.

I've gotten a number of requests for updated pics of Guinness, the new resident TechRestore Coonhound pup that we've had now for about two months. Here's a 7/31 picture of the boy.

Enjoy your day and before you go, partake in today's deal:

Apple Branded 24x CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive Self-Service Upgrade for PowerBook G4 and iBook G4: Price drop to just $69.99 today!

New Deals, New Blogs & No More Six Feet Under

Hey there,

Happy Thursday. One more day of paying the piper and then on to the weekend. Woo hoo! We're putting the finishing touches on today's Special News, creating the ever witty introduction and digging up more deals for your pleasure. You should see the deals hit your mailbox by the end of the day today. Get your mouse ready for the Rapid Response deal, it's going to be a good one.

You'll notice a new link in the upper left corner of the Specials Blog today for our new FutureShock blog, hosted by Brian Northway. Brian is our artist in residence, as well as our personal DJ. He's got, if not the best, then certainly the most eclectic iTunes collection to share while at the office. I mean, when's the last time you got to listen to William Shatner sing the blues? But seriously, FuturShock contains news about iPods, iTunes, music and art as well as a liberal sprinkling of deals and exclusive specials for your pleasure. Based on what I've seen in the first week of FutureShock's publication, I think you'll find it very useful and entertaining.
Get over there now.

Are you a Six Feet Under fan? If so, you know that last week marked the end of it's 5-year run on HBO. Renee and I will miss the show and its dark humor each week, but it was a good way to end things with style. In one of the flashbacks during the last show, an image of three little kids running around a lawn while their Dad sprayed them with the garden hose on a sunny day really hit home with me. There's nothing that gets my kids giggling louder than when I pick up the hose and aim it in their general direction. And it doesn't seem to matter how cold it is, or if there on their way to school, out for dinner or dressed in their Sunday best. They instantly drop whatever they have, run in front of the hose and yell "Don't spray us Dad, don't spray us!" while they laugh loudly and jump around. Of course, their actions betray them and I can see the hope in their eyes as they beg to get drenched, or at least sprinkled. When it is time to let loose with the hose, a big arcing spray across the lawn, one that usually makes a rainbow, is all it takes to put them over the edge and they will start running around madly, enjoying the shower.

Anyway, the summer is running out on us, so before the weather turns cold, get outside with the hose. If you don't have kids, I'm sure your dog will enjoy it just as much...maybe.

I'll see you later today when the Special News hits your mailbox. Don't miss out, signup here to get today's deals.

best,
Shannon

Giddy Up

Hey there,

Chuckachuck, chuckachuck, chuchachuck, neighhhhhh! Hi Ho Silver, away!

This is what I heard pretty much all the way home from our trip last weekend to Pine Mountain Lake. After hitting the driveway and unpacking the back of our SUV, I found the culprit; one horsey toy with the annoying speaker and the computer chip in it's ear that was pressed down against something, causing it to shriek every few minutes. It was pretty funny the first 20 or 30 times, then it stopped for awhile, keeping me from pulling over to fix the problem. About 50 miles from home, it came on strong again and I just turned up the movie the kids were watching and pressed a little hard on the accelerator.

More on the trip later, for now - save some cash on 60GB laptop upgrades this week!

Get the hard drive upgrade you need, at our lowest price to date this week!

PowerBookRestore 60GB 5400RPM 24-Hour Hard Drive Upgrade for Powerbooks and iBooks
Normally $229.99, schedule your upgrade by 8/26 and use coupon code "UP60" to drop the price to just $199!
http://techrestore.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16160&cat=255&page=1

This price includes overnight pickup of your laptop, installation and data transfer within 24-hours and return overnight shipping. Enjoy!

What a Blowout

Hey there,

Man, what a party. We hosted the famous 2005 Jean Summer Party this past Saturday and I have to tell you it was a total blast. We invited a vast crowd of people (well 50 or so) including family, friends, friends of family and anyone else we could think of. Add said people, mix in a wide array of food, music, adult beverages, a raging fire in the firepit, a gaggle of little kids chasing each other around (what the hecks a gaggle, anyway?) and one crazy black and tan Coonhound puppy and you have the setting for a memorable event.

After spending the last few weeks getting our house and yard ready for the event, it was a treat to sit down and actually enjoy the view. We caught up with old friends, made some new ones, certainly offended at least one person during the evening (I can only speak for myself here) and kept our neighbors on alert until the wee hours of the morning. Well, maybe it wasn't quite that crazy, but it sure was fun. I'll fill you in more in the Special News scheduled for this Thursday.

In the meantime, here's some goodies for your enjoyment:

Time to build your Mac "mod"!

PowerMac G5 Case Assembly with Fans: Normally $249.99, get 'em for just $199 when you use coupon code "LOUD" with your order.

I'm now officially...an official

Hey there,

I spent the better part of my Saturday out on a blazing hot soccer field, getting the final hands-on experience to be a U10 (under 10) Referee for the AYSO soccer league that Skylar plays in. After 6-hours, yes six of them, I got to sit under a shade tree and take a 60 question test to be sure I was qualified to Ref these little kids that half the time forget which goal they are supposed to be kicking the ball into.

It's not that the Referee training folks were overzealous, wait...yes it is. But, I guess if you're going to do it, you might as well do it right and wear the whole uniform with the black knee high socks ("Keep those three white stripes right below the knee!), the bright yellow shirt and wonderfully fashionable black silky shorts.

Anyway, thankfully I passed the test, so I can Ref Sky's games this coming season. The AYSO is a great organization and all the volunteers who run the outfit work very hard to make sure the kids have a safe and fun environment to play soccer in. The one thing I know for sure, there will be NO pics of me in the Ref uniform posted for your review.

Hey, how about a special? Check this out:

We just received a large shipment of iPod mini hard drives that we need to find good homes for. Get one this week for just $39!

iPod Mini 4gb Hard Drive: Normally $89.99, take $50 off when you use coupon code "REF"
Hurry, this deal expires on 8/12 at midnight!
Learn more and place your order here.

Happy, Happy, Joy Joy

Friday!

Time to get everthing wrapped up for the upcoming weekend. We're busy with the a big influx of laptop and iPod repairs and the wave of orders that yesterday's Specials News has generated. In between, we'll be taking a quick break to barbecue up some great looking pork tenderloins that have been marinating for a few days. Another typical Friday at TechRestore; lots of wrap-up work and a great BBQ lunch for our staff.

If you missed the Special News yesterday, I've copied it below for your pleasure. Enjoy the deals and enjoy your weekend even more!

best,
Shannon Jean

Greetings!

Tuesday night was National Night Out, and we went, well...out. Out to the park for some great music, lots of fun with the kids, everything you could want to eat "on-a-stick" and most importantly, some incredible Kettle Corn. You know, the popcorn cooked in a big kettle, with a little salt and a liberal dose of sugar thrown in that crystallizes and lightly covers the yummy kernels. There's a real are to making Kettle Corn and I always enjoy watching the cook swirl around the popcorn while he adds the sugar with a flourish of his hand above the kettle.

The thing about Kettle Corn that gets me in trouble is the search for the BIB. I'm referring of course to the practice of not wanting to stop eating the Kettle Corn until you end on just the right piece, the perfect combination of sweet and salty, the perfect crunch, the Best in Bag. It's a big deal, since you never know where the BIB might be hiding. You may have to turn the bag upside down, to get to the kernels at the bottom, or you might do the popular "side-shake" to mix up the kernels for a brand new experience on your next grab into the bag. To truly find the BIB, the Kettle Corn must be warm, as in just out of the kettle itself. This doesn't mean that you can't continue your BIB search later at home, just don't get your hopes up, since the BIB experience is often followed by disappointment, when thinking that the kernel you just ate might not be the *real* BIB, so you had better eat another one. Chances are, you'll get something much less than the BIB, so you'll have to continue your quest....which might be good, or bad, depending on how you look at it. :-) Part of me wants to learn how to make this stuff myself, while the other part is afraid of what it might do to my waistline. Plus I didn't know that there was an entire industry in Kettle Corn machines. And maybe part of the experience is buying a warm bag while you're at the Farmers Market, County Fair, Insert name of your event here, etc.. I'm sure that's the important part, although having it around the house to eat is pretty darn nice. You can order your own setup here, if you don't mind the price tag.

So where should we go this week? I have it, tell me if these are true of false:

A man has been living at a Paris airport since 1988?

A tooth left in a glass of Coca-Cola will dissolve overnight?

American Express issues a special black card that allows its holders to buy anything.

Federal law allows only the Texas state flag to be flown at the same height as the U.S. national flag

JELL-O brand gelatin is made from bones and hides.

Can't stand not knowing if any of these urban legends are true? Click on over to Snopes.com for the answers. I will let you look them up yourself, but I will tell you that at least two of the above statements are true.

Here we are again, at the bottom of the Special News. This week has flown by for all of us at TechRestore. We're very excited about our new Free Nationwide Pickup service and proud of our new 1-year warranty coverage that we announced this week. Thanks for taking some of your time today to learn about what's going on with us and to share some deals.

We're coming up on T-minus 7 days this weekend for our Summer Party. This means lots of projects to wrap up over the weekend. A giant truck will be delivering mulch tomorrow for all the garden areas and I've got about a hundred other projects to get finished up. Not to mention that I've got a 6-hour Soccer referee training class on Saturday. Should be interesting.

Enjoy your weekend and stop by the Specials Blog in between now and next Thursday if you get a chance. http://techrestore.com/blog.shtml

Thursday, almost there...

Hey there,

I'm getting the Special News all polished up, ready for it's trip around the world later today, well, maybe later tonight, considering it's been a very busy morning. ;-)

But it's worth the wait! I promise. Keep an eye on your mailbox for the Specials later today. If you haven't signed up, and you would like to save up to $50-$75 off our regular prices and you'd like to get a free Mac mini. Get yourself over here now.

Here's today's Special News intro. Nothing to do with anything, but it's something to chew on until you get today's deals.

Time...to buy a watch?

[UPDATE 12:59PM PT]:
The TechRestore Store is back online. Please let me know if you have any problems with the store during the next 24-hours. Thanks!

[UPDATE 10:30PM PT]
We just temporarily closed the TechRestore store for some back-end upgrades. If you were in the process of placing an order, your information will still be there when the store re-opens shortly. Check back here for updates throughout the night.

Thanks!

-------

Hey there,

It's happened. I'm going to be forced to buy a watch. This because I am training to be an official AYSO soccer referee for Skylar's soccer season this fall. After all these years of always being close to some other time source, cell phone, PowerBook, automobile, I've been told, in no uncertain terms, that a digital watch must accompany me out onto the soccer field. Maybe they won't make me wear it on my wrist? I can hang it around my neck or something? Of course, given the other 200 rules I learned last night in class, I'm sure that's not going to fly.

On to other news. We'll be taking our store offline tonight for some back-end upgrades. The store will be closed from 10PM-1AM Pacific Time. Please get your orders in early and check back here for any news updates during the night.

Before I leave, here's today's Blog Special from the home office in Concord, California.

Upgrade the battery in your 3rd generation iPod for just $12.99!

TechRestore 650mAh iPod Battery for 3rd Generation iPods
Normally $16.99, get one or more for just $12.99 when you use coupon code "WATCH" with your order. Hurry, this deal expires on 8/6 at midnight
Learn more and place your order here.

Back with you soon.

best,
