Re-Tune iTunes
Ever since my sys admin days, I've been an MP3 technology enthusiast (much better than the sample enhanced midi files on my old Amiga)! I was a big fan of Sonique and WinAmp before the release of the iPod and iTunes. Naturally, I wouldn't consider giving up the powerful elegance of iTunes now, but I do miss are the wide variety of audio visualizations that were available for my old MP3 jukebox software. Thankfully, our friends at SoundSpectrum (the folks who made the built-in iTunes visual technology) have some fantastic upgrades for iTunes. First off, there's an update to the standard iTunes visualizer, called G-Force, that has a much greater variety of imagery and is user customizable! That's right, you can add your own images, text, or even alter the equations that produce the patterns on screen. As if that weren't enough, there's also a stand-alone version included, that will react to any input - kids of any age will enjoy seeing the colorful, full-screen graphics react to their singing and clapping. For something a little different, try the Whitecap visualization (pictured above). It's old-school 3D vector graphics are mesmerizing - a must-have for any self respecting geek. My preferred method of listening to iTunes, once I get my playlist selected, is to run audio visualizations full screen and it's a great addition to the discotheque atmosphere at parties. Get your free downloads, for Mac or PC, at SoundSpectrum.com. Now, if we could just get these to run on an iPod...
Here's a special I stole from Shannon's blog: 4gb iPod mini hard drives, normally $79.99, still selling for the unheard of price of $39.99 with coupon code "YOSEMITE." Be sure to specify whether you have an original iPod mini or a 2nd revision (with "4gb" printed on the back). Also, we can only guarantee that these drives will work in an iPod mini, so hack at your own risk!
